Hinoki Foundation hosts student teachers from Japanese universities, during visits to American schools that offer Japanese-language education. Hinoki Foundation introduces the college “trainees” to U.S. teaching methods, and the young students to real-life big brothers and big sisters from Japan, to foster international ties.
The program features a mini-homestay with local families, allowing young students of Japanese to apply their bilingual skills. It also includes a Hinoki-Kai event, where the trainees present aspects of Japanese culture, thereby motivating students in America to continue their study of Japanese. Some university students later return as volunteer Hinoki Interns, to support language and culture education at local schools with Japanese-language programs.
